Albert Benedict
Sculptor Albert Benedict has resided in Wisconsin all his life and draws upon its rural landscape for much of his work. In recent years however, his extensive travels throughout the United States and Mexico have resulted in a strong influence from Native Cultures. The variety of his work and academic background has lent themselves well to a wide use of traditional and non-traditional materials. Benedict goes beyond the form of the sculpture with an overwhelming use of pattern, image, and color that could rightly be called obsessive.
Benedict was an art educator for 28 years and received his MA and MFA from the University of Wisconsin- Madison. His major degree is in sculpture and mixed media. Recent exhibitions include solo exhibitions at the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters in Madison and the Anderson Arts Center of Kenosha, invitational and juried exhibits as well as an award for best exhibit at the Boca Raton Museum of Art in Florida. Albert is also an active member of Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors.
In addition, Albert & Donna Benedict have been collaborative ceramic artists for over twenty years. Their work represents a variety of techniques consisting of high/low relief sculptured forms to more traditional wheel thrown forms. Along with varied techniques, they employ an active glaze palette from bright colors to more subtle earth tones.
The couple’s goal is to provide the public with strong visual pieces, emphasizing principles and elements of design, to both functional and non-functional forms. Their work incorporates not only clay, as well as various other media allowing the clay pieces to take on a new dimension. The work is directed strongly towards interior as well as exterior spaces.
Together they have exhibited in galleries and art exhibitions throughout the country and have received both purchase awards as well as merit awards. Albert and Donna Benedict will be guest artists at Hohf Piano Workshop.
