Jill Bedford
Wisconsin-based floral still-life photographer, Jill Bedford, returns to the Kettle Moraine Studio Tour this year presenting her new work!
(Festival News: Jill just won two back-to-back Best of Show Awards at this summer’s 2011 Milwaukee Art Museum’s, Lakefront Festival of the Arts; and, at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art’s, Art Fair on the Square!)
Jill’s photography career evolved from her background and degrees in botany and horticulture. In fact, each composition features the flowers, fruits and vegetables that she grows in her gardens. Her photographs are often mistaken as being paintings, but in fact, there is no hand colorization involved. She works in the traditional darkroom, creating her photographs from medium-format, negative film.
“The garden landscape sings like an orchestra in constant performance. My goal is to capture that essence; recording a moment in time where I am trying my best to bring a multi-dimensional world into a two-dimensional photograph. The flowers reveal the evolving seasons: Daffodils signify the rustle of spring, and foxgloves, the height of summer. I allow nature and intuition to rule, as I observe chaos playing with order and predictability flirting with alluring surprises. Each photograph signifies one day in the life of the garden,” she describes.
